The Virginia Tech Panhellenic Community is committed to providing a supportive environment where members can grow academically, personally, and professionally while building lifelong friendships.

Membership in a Panhellenic sorority offers opportunities for leadership development, scholarship, community service, philanthropy, and campus involvement. Throughout the recruitment process, we encourage students to make the decision that is best for them, while families serve as a source of encouragement and support.

  • Students interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority participate in Formal Recruitment each January. Throughout the week, they have the opportunity to meet members from all 13 chapters, learn about each organization's values and traditions, and discover where they feel most at home. Recruitment is a mutual selection process, meaning both the student and each chapter make decisions throughout the experience.

  • Parents should encourage students to:

    • Focus on finding the chapter that feels like the best fit.

  • Membership costs vary by chapter and typically include new member fees, semester dues, and initiation fees. Costs differ based on chapter programming, housing, and national organization requirements. Each chapter provides a detailed financial breakdown during recruitment, and students are encouraged to ask questions before accepting membership.

  • Housing requirements vary by chapter. Some organizations require members to live in the chapter house for a designated period, while others offer more flexibility. Students should ask each chapter about housing expectations and associated costs during recruitment.

  • Scholarship is a core value of every Panhellenic organization. Chapters provide academic resources such as study hours, peer mentoring, tutoring, and scholarship recognition to help members succeed in the classroom.
